BOB WAS AN ORIGINAL FULL TIME MEMBER OF THE TURBO RATS WHICH WAS FORMED IN THE MID-NINETIES AFTER THE NIGHTCRAWLERS DISBANDED. IT WAS/IS A LOCAL CLUB BAND THAT HE STILL PLAYS OCCASIONAL GIGS WITH.
footnote: The Turbo Rats were the brain child of veteran drummer Jimmy Lopez. Jimmy's vision was a tight powerful group comprised of the strongest singers and players in a classic R&B format.
He called the incredible Reggie Carter on bass, and myself on guitar. I loved the challenge of the three piece concept, and my band mates were pure pleasure to work with. Reggie and I both had been lead singers in other projects and our voices worked together quite well.
I had used Jimmy on every track of my Rough Cut Stone CD, and his solid, groove approach on drums kicked the band over the top. We sounded great and had immediate success and acceptance. We also had a lot of fun!!
For personal reasons I had to leave "The Rats" and was replaced beautifully by John Ashton, a great guitarist, vocalist and friend.
The Rats are still working nonstop and are booked up forever in clubs, private parties, and corporate functions. The popularity of the band has continued to grow from our first gig.
Although I haven't been a member for about 5 years, I occasionally fill in for John when he can't make a performance. It's as much fun as ever, and I love seeing and playing with Reggie and Jimmy. B.Y.
Friday night, January 9, 2004 saw Bob gigging with another of the bands he was previously in. This is the Turbo Rats in Longmont, CO. The Turbo Rats play a great selection of soul covers from the late sixties and early seventies as well as some newer rockers. They are an excellent band and a lot of fun. The crowd was into it and it was a great time. I made an experimental, quite amateur looking mpeg from this show that is very short. Click here if you would like to see it.
Above on bass and lead vocals is Reggie Carter, on drums is Jimmy Lopez. Below is Bob on electric guitar and lead vocals. Jimmy was a member of the group Bob Yeazel and the Nightcrawlers in the first half of the nineties and also played drums on most of the tracks on Bob's Rough Cut Stone CD in 1996. (A little silliness for the camera.)
